GOLF: Waste Management Phoenix Open

Waste Management Phoenix open, Stadium Course - TPC Scottsdale, Arizona

We head to Phoenix this week on the now revamped TPC Scottsdale Stadium course. It's now longer, with more bunkers added and apparently resurfaced greens! But I think the same will apply, hitting the fairways and good second shot placement on the greens. I'm going with a course specialist, a current in form player and first timer!

Previous Phoenix open winner Hunter Mahan, had a great finish to last season, after having to pull out of the Arnold Palmer when in a winning position for the birth of his first child he looked like being off the raider for the Ryder Cup and likely not to continue his great run of making all the Fed Ex tour Finals to date. But by finishing 7th at the PGA then winning the Barclays the following week that all changed! Well he's back in The Arizona Desert and a course he loves, he's knocked the rust off and he doesn't need a great run into this event as he finished 47th in the tournament previous to finishing 4th here last year. I look for him to be in the mix come Sunday.

Russell Henley seems to have found his game, finishing 3 in the Hyundai and 17th in the Sony along with a rest last week he should be in fine form to make better go at this tournament. He had an MC last year and 67th in 2013 but you can overlook 2013 as he won the Sony 2 weeks before, so maybe wasn't focused and last year he was slow out the blocks until he won the Honda a few weeks later. So he's a winner of big events with big players in the mix, Phoenix certainly has that and I think he'll challenge this week.

Brooks Koepka fresh of a win in Turkey at the end of last year he has taken some time out and spent some quality time in the U.S with his family and friends. Last year he mainly played the European tour but flew over to the U.S for the odd tournament - and with the jet lag and change of conditions he faired pretty well. On this seasons PGA he's so far played 2 events and both top 10's, with 8th at the Frys and a 4th in the Shriners. So he's on form, he's rested and his game should fit the course!
